Nice filter bag for waterfalls for pond transfers
I ordered these bags to go around the pumps that we have powering the various fountains that are on our property. The bags are large enough to fit even that largest of our pumps and provide sufficient height to allow not only the pump to be contained but also a portion of the intake or discharge piping. The image with the two different size bags shows the one that came with the pump (the smaller one) beside this bag. This bag is also larger in both circumference and height (shown side-by-side in the images for comparison). The larger size allows higher volume pumps to fit inside this bag.The bag’s weave is slightly courser than the bag that came with our newest pump. The zoomed in image shows the difference in weave size (this bag being the larger weave, compared to the bag that came with the pump). The weave is sufficiently large to allow water to easily flow through the bag and into the pump while still being fine enough to prevent leaves and plant debris from being sucked into the pump. This weave works well for preventing this debris from clogging the pump’s impeller. That being said, the weave is a little too loose to prevent fine material from going through the material. More specifically, this weave allows some debris through the weave that can clog fountain nozzles. As such, this bag is great for applications where water is being pumped for a waterfall or from one pond to another, but is a little too loose for use with fine nozzle ports in many pond fountains. As a counterpoint, if used for waterfalls, this size weave is much less likely to clog rapidly in ponds with significant plant aquaculture, allowing longer times between clearing/cleaning out while still stopping material from entering the pump that could damage the impeller or cause dry cavitation. The locking drawstrings allow the bag to be tightened around an intake out outlet pipe but, being a bag, does not accommodate a dual pipe system as easily (where there is both an inlet and outlet pipe. The bag material seems very similar to our other pump bags, so I expect it to have a similar lifespan. The material is strong enough that pump breakthrough (or tearing) seems unlikely.Overall, this is a quality bag that will work well for our ponds’ waterfalls and transfer pumps but we will most likely not use it for our finer (smaller) nozzled fountains. I suspect it will work adequately for our larger nozzled (high volume) fountains
